Last week the Monitor & Digest exposed a scheme by some opposition party leaders and some named Lusaka Lawyers that are drafting an impeachment motion against President Banda following the release of Dora Siliya tribunal findings. Tetamashimba, who is also Local Government and Housing Minister, vowed to defend President Banda with “his last blood” because the President had done nothing wrong to warrant an impeachment. “We are ready to defend him because he has done nothing impeachable. We are going to defend him with our last blood,” Tetamashimba said. The MMD spokesperson said people calling for the impeachment of President Banda have personal issues against the Head of State. Commenting on Heritage Party president Brigadier-General, Godfrey Miyanda and Patriotic Front (PF) Spokesperson’s statements that President Banda is impeachable, Tetamashimba said that although the opposition PF has a good number of MPs in Parliament, he doubts if they have the capacity to impeach the President. “Lubinda should know that impeachment in done in Parliament and in Parliament… I don’t know, even if they are the second biggest political party I wonder if they have the mandate and the capacity to do it,” he said. He challenged Lubinda to concentrate on his alleged corruption case involving the council instead of talking about the impeachment of President Banda who is innocent. He added that considering that he is one of the leaders of the African Parliamentary Network Against Corruption (APNAC), Lubinda should rethink whether he should hold on to the position before he is cleared by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). “Lubinda should concentrate on the allegations of him pocketing money from the Council. He should not be talking about impeachment, he should instead remain calm and wait for the ACC to come and question him,” he said. Tetamashimba said Brigadier- General Miyanda is a failed politician and soldier and advised him against attacking President Banda. “To start with Miyanda is a failed politician and a failed soldier. What is he talking about? He has no MPs in Parliament,” he charged. Last week, the Monitor & Digest exposed a scheme by some named opposition leaders and Lusaka Lawyers that are planning on impeaching the President. Sources hinted that the opposition leaders had met at some house in Kalundu and discussed the possibility of impeaching President Banda based on the Siliya tribunal findings. The sources said the empire against President Banda is tenacious and relentless. “It will continue to derail his development agenda to the detriment of the country. Banda should deal with them decisively since this is the only reason they have mounted a war against him and his government,” said the source. The sources said President Banda had breached the constitution and hence the need to impeach him. “It is not clear which part of the constitution he has breached, but they allege that he has beached the constitution over the Dora tribunal and must be impeached,” said the source adding, “We are surprised with the Dennis Chirwa Tribunal findings; we wonder why the learned members of the bench decided to talk about impeachment of the President when the President was not being probed,” he said. Following the Monitor & Digest story there has been choruses of politicians talking about the impeachment of President Banda. |
